Best Hair Replacement Surgical Techniques

With technological advancements in the hair replacement industry, more than a million people benefit each year from the innovative ways and surgical means. Hair transplantation techniques involve restoring hair that individuals may have lost due to medicines, diseases and hereditary reasons. Though there are numerous ways of replacing lost hair, surgically there are only a few options available.

Follicle Grafting: One of the most common ways to re-grow hair is through grafting. Tiny hair follicles are re-planted after being surgically moved from the area where healthy follicles are harvested and transplanted to the hairline and later filled-in the scalp area.

Skin flap surgery: Flap surgery as a hair replacement method is popular. In this procedure the surgeon takes donor tissue or flaps of hair follicles and transplants it over the scalp to restore natural hair growth. The balding skin on the scalp is removed and the donor skin with hair follicles is transplanted. These transplanted flaps of skin with hair follicles ensure that they grow naturally and fill in for lush hair growth.  After the attaching of the skin is completed the surgeon uses microsurgical techniques to connect the skin with the blood vessels. This completes the hair replacement procedure.

Reduction of Scalp Procedure: One of the surgical hair replacement procedure that involves removal of the patch of the scalp with thinning or no hair and transplanting flaps of skin. Later these flaps of skin are re-connected with the vascular system. However, the skill of the surgeon is tested here. If the scalp is pulled in too tightly, it gives an uneven look and looks unnatural. Additionally, if the donor tissue is less, flap surgery or extensions maybe needed.

Expansions in scalp: Adding hair follicles with healthy roots can be implanted at specific points to aid dense re-growth. These ‘tissue expanders’ are placed under the scalp during the hair replacement surgical process and slowly expanded to cover a certain area. This procedure is done to increase the scalp area of hair bearing tissue for surgical purposes. Later the scalp reduction procedure will be conducted, after the hair bearing skin is grafted.

However, you need to have higher hair density and scalp elasticity for a successful hair replacement procedure. These skin extensions are left in place for natural growth and number of tissue expanders, depend upon the amount of bald spots to cover. However, this procedure is not conducive for individuals with burn injuries
