What you need to know about scalp reduction hair replacement surgery

Losing one’s hair can be emotionally devastating, but it doesn’t have to be.  One of the more popular hair replacement procedures is known as scalp reduction.  It involves the surgical removal of a balding section of the scalp and then surgically connecting the remaining scalp sections for the replacement of the missing or thinning hair.  It is one of the more common hair replacement procedures used today, but you should be aware of a few aspects of this procedure before deciding on going this route.

Remember that you want to select a procedure that is going to provide you with the optimum benefits whenever possible.  There are advantages and disadvantages of the procedure that you need to be aware of.  Provided the surgery is performed correctly, this hair replacement procedure can restore the natural appearance of your scalp so that your hairline looks natural and like it did in years gone by.  However, there are certain aspects that have to be taken into consideration.

First and foremost, it is up to your hair replacement surgeon to determine if you are the right candidate for this type of surgical procedure.  Scalp reduction surgery is not for everyone so it is important that you consult with a surgeon that is highly experienced in this type of surgery and scalp conditions in order to determine if this is going to be the proper course of action.  After all, the goal is to restore the hairline and provide you with a natural look like you once had.

There are certain individuals that are not candidates for this type of hair replacement procedure.  For instance, if the area that you are experiencing loss and thinning of hair is at the front of the scalp (forehead hairline area), this is not a suitable procedure and your surgeon will probably advise against it.  Another downside to scalp reduction surgery is the fact that it will leave scarring which can result in natural hair growth patterns and make it obvious that you have had a procedure performed.

You should be very careful to research this hair replacement technique as thoroughly as possible and discuss it with a licensed surgeon who is skilled at performing the procedure.  Make sure that you read online information and reviews or testimonials from individuals that have had this surgical procedure done to correct their condition.
