Hair replacement surgery instead of shaving your head

Hair replacement techniques, whether non-surgical or surgical in nature have become effect ways for dealing with lost and thinning hair conditions.  Today there are a number of solutions that target all types of conditions with a replacement application from the non-surgical products to the different hair replacement surgeries.  Ironically, men who are suffering with lost and thinning hair oftentimes choose just shaving their heads bald to compensate for this.

But is that really the best option? It just depends on whether or not you view yourself as the shaved head type.  Some people may not agree with shaving the head because they feel it will not enhance their appearance.  However, due to financial reasons, they choose this because they feel that cannot afford a hair replacement procedure.  Sadly, the head shaving option is not always the wisest as it becomes more apparent that you are balding once the shaved areas start growing back and expose the balding areas.

Here are a few suggestions to consider if you are debating between having a hair replacement procedure performed or just shaving your head bald.  First and foremost, you should always consult with your family physician before going any further.  If he feels that your condition is not serious enough yet, he will not recommend pursuing surgery and will most likely recommend Propecia or Rogaine.  Conversely, if he feels it’s time, he will probably refer you to a specialist for evaluating your case.

Obviously, budget has to be a primary concern as well.  Hair replacement surgery can get expensive depending on how many sessions you need to undergo in order to complete the process.  Some individuals have paid up to $20,000 for the process while others have paid as little as $4,000.  It just depends on how early or how late you’ve addressed the condition.  Additionally, replacement surgery is not for everyone as not everyone has sufficient, healthy donor hair to use throughout the process.

Finally, if your family physician recommends that you see a hair replacement surgeon, he will hopefully know several that can be trusted.  However, there are those rare cases where they are not familiar with any and you may be forced to research this on your own.  Be very careful when you are searching for a hair replacement surgeon.  There are dozens of them out there and although most of them are reputable, others are not.
